(Sony took back my defective 820 and gave me a 850) 46' model. I will be comparing the HX850 to the HX820.Pros: *Slimmest bezel of any Sony TV yet *Silver lining around the bezel adds a nice touch *Input lag seems better on the 2012 850 *Less adjustment needed right out of the box, at least in my case. *Speakers seem a tad bit better this year, but nothing to brag about. Cons: *Remote is garbage, Sony needs to bring back the remote they used with the HX820. A victim of cost-cutting. *Illuminated Sony Logo is gone. Another nice feature butchered by Sony's new cost-cutting strategies of 2012. So-So's: *3D viewing seems to have improved overall over the 2011 HX820, however tilting your head at all will ruin the picture. Perhaps this is resolved with the new 3D glasses? I am using the TDG-BR250 glasses. *Motion... Read more 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By A. After the very first initial setup of the TV, the custom picture settings were not accessible (greyed out) so I had to reset the TV to its factory condition and run the setup again. This time all options were accessible. So far, we are very pleased with the TV. Of course, only time will tell how reliable it is; but it is great at the moment. The delivery was fast and as scheduled (Amazon had an option to schedule a delivery on a certain day and at a certain time). I was concerned about possible reflections (it is glass after all) but that is not an issue at all. So far we have not noticed any motion blur like on older LED TVs. Overall - very pleased.4/30/2012 If while watching movies (BD/DVD) the so called "soap opera effect" bothers you, you can change the Scene Selection to Game. I have not noticed it that much while watching TV programs but the effect was very much present while watching BD... The positive reviews about that TV were correct as were the negative comments about Sony support.I received the 55 HX850 and it has a superb picture & appearance, but Sony support is bad & has been a waste of time. I was so irritated by the treatment from Sony Support (up to National Customer Relations) that I received that I went out and bought a 46 inch Samsung for another room - but I plan to keep the HX850 as my primary TV. ( I have been buying exclusively Sony TVs for more than 40 years (at least 10 sets). Sony's support staff even referred to its records which showed many of my purchases. I was shocked that a very loyal customer was so mistreated. My apologies to John Mi He got it right on Sony's support. Excellent picture with nice appearance. CNET concurs. See its evaluation at: [...] Horrible support. It's a tragedy. It's unfortunate that Sony has not... Read more |

I have never had to talk to Sony support, but it sounds like a good thing I haven’t. Like some of the reviewers I have been a life long Sony television lover, and I hope to be way into the future. I want to put this new television in my living room, but my old Sony hasn’t died yet, but I think it might have an “accident”. I recently upgraded to the Hopper DVR from Dish, so of course I have been debating if I should replace all three of my televisions since the Hopper can support 3 HD televisions without big clunky receiver boxes at the remote televisions. Another great aspect of the Hopper which would look outstanding on this Sony is the picture in picture the Hopper has included that a coworker at Dish told me about, it will allow me to watch a football game on one half, and watch the Redzone channel on the other and not miss a single big play on Sunday.
